The Olive Ridley Project (ORP) is on a mission to protect sea turtles and their habitats through rescue and rehabilitation, education and outreach, and scientific research. At the core of their work is a passionate and dedicated team of scientists, veterinarians, conservationists, citizen scientists and volunteers. Sea turtles are truly global citizens, knowing no borders or boundaries. In the same spirit, ORP takes a global approach to identifying and killing data gaps in sea turtle research, protecting sea turtles and their habitats, and fulfilling their education and outreach mission. They also continue to encourage collaboration between NGOs, governments and other essential stakeholders to achieve their joint vision of sea turtle conservation.

One of the biggest threats to sea turtles is being accidentally caught and killed in fishing nets. Trapped in a net, the turtles are dragged through the water with no access to the surface to breathe, causing them to drown. It's estimated that some 4,600 sea turtles are killed by fishing nets and hooks every year in U.S. waters.
This 40 second PSA follows the story of Penny a rescue Olive Ridley Turtle that lived in refuge at ORP for about 2 years, while slowly recovering from her injury due to ghost nets. The audience is taken through the hard-hitting journey of Penny and how ORP helps her recuperate and return her back home in good shape!
